I tried this today and to me I can hardly taste the apple. Funny enough, the green apple special edition had the same effect on me, it was almost a plain vanilla flavour. Maybe my tastebuds don't understand apple? That wouldn't explain my favourite, apple pie flavour, but for sure there's a relation here.
