Hey everyone

It has been a while since we had news on the shaker project. But… we’ve got an exciting update now!

In the last months, we’ve been looking for the perfect ‘premium’ shaker. We kept all options open; custom made, branded and unbranded shakers. We’ve selected two premium shaker finalists that, as promised, we want to present to you for feedback.

The plan is to sell the ‘premium’ shaker next to the current ‘functional’ shaker.

We’re curious to hear what your thoughts are on the following aspects:

I would kindly ask to give your feedback on every aspect (design, usability, price) below. Also, vote for your favourite shaker by filling in the poll.

Be aware; the first shaker would be unbranded and the second shaker would have a Queal logo.

Shaker 1: MOUS shaker bottle (unbranded)

Usability (benefits & cons)

Benefits

• Lid closes very well
• Reservoir is easy to clean by hand and detachable (view image)
• Also dishwasher and freezer proof
• Almost no powder gets stuck in ridges/holes
• If you accidentally scoop in the powder first, it won’t get stuck at the bottom

Cons

• Measurements are hard to see on the reservoir when undetached (detached, undetached)
• Lid is hard to open
• Lack of whisker ball (from our tests the powder dissolves fine, but you may have to shake it harder)

Shaker 2: Radian Blender Bottle (branded)

Blender Bottle of course. Their plastic is top notch, they are a very established player in shaker bottle business, it has whisker ball, much larger capacity (590ml is really low), you can hook it to the belt or bag and it would have Queal branding. No brainer, the other one just looks nice.

I don't like either of them, sorry...
These are the things that are a no-go for me:

Shaker 1 MOUS; too little capacity, unreadable measurements, way too expensive.
It looks great, though. If the capacity would be 850ml and had readable measurements,
I would probably buy it, for max E 15,-.

Shaker 2 Radian; whiskerball, bottom too small to put hand in in order to clean and dry.

MOUS, the size is more than enough for a meal and if I only have to shake arder to dissolve the power I can ditch the noisy whisker ball. I'm more than happy to pay 20€, after all since I start using Queal I bought 5 shakers and all of them are still good with daily use, machine washed every day.

The measurements when attached are a problem, but you could include a simple sticker with Queal Branding that would have markers visible, best of both worlds!

Oh, and it looks amazing, please do consider having it as well as the branded shaker.

Uhm wait. Why would you need a shaker with 800ml? How do you mix your Queal?
I usually use 300ml of water with 100g Queal for a 400kcal meal. The big size of the original Qual shaker is my major complaint why I almost never use it.

Oh and MOUS sells their bottle for 36$ so 20€ is not really expensive. I'd like to have one

Neither...

The MOUS shaker is a promising candidate. It looks very easy to wash and use, just like plain old V1 (my favorite!). It's missing a whisker ball, which is a minor annoyance, but I have spare ones so I don't really care. The deal breaker is the fact it's unbranded. It doesn't appeal to me. Why would I get an unbranded MOUS shaker from Queal? I could just go and get whatever unbranded shaker I like most instead of the Queal-approved one, wouldn't make a difference.

The BlenderBottle looks like a pain in the ass to wash (especially the cap), which was (IMO) one of the major drawbacks of V3. It really looks like it's exactly the same kinda thing as V3: cool look but annoying for everyday use. I definitely would not want that.

If you guys could go for a Queal-branded MOUS shaker, maybe...?

I currently have a glass blender bottle as my premium at home bottle.

As for size my current 800ml is for 'standard' Queal almost to small. Powder spills easily when filling it. 50 or 100ml more would reduce spillage.

I'd choose the blender, without a doubt. The shaker has too little capacity. If I have to use more powder, then it won't mix it right. And it costs too much.
The blender looks good, good capacity. But as Vernon said, the bottom looks quite small, might be hard to clean with a tower or a sponge...
But if I had to choose between those two, blender wins.

For those who complain about the whisker ball in the Blender bottle, nothing prevents them from removing it .

I prefer the MOUS shaker but it's indeed a bit small for my taste. I can cope with it, I guess. However "Lid is hard to open" is hardly a "con" for me. I travel with my shaker set horizontally in my backpack (in a special isotherm compartment) and I prefer a lid that is hard to open.

Mous in Teal is fierce cool but TBH €20 is a little more for somethings thats just slightly better than the 20x shakers I've got stacked on top of the press.

I like the MOUS Shaker. the only Thing is I like the mesh from my last Shaker for mixing. this works better than the wire ball Shaker. have both the first Shaker and this mesh mixer available would be awesome.

Neither, actually. I'd prefer the first one, but wouldn't want to go back to a lid that pops instead of screws. It also seems like it would slip out of your hands easily while shaking due to not enough grip, though that may just be a wrong impression.

The second one:
- Bottom is too small = annoying to clean
- Centered-mounted spout seems less than ideal to me, I could be wrong here
- Whisker ball. Ever since the latest shaker (v4) I would never ever go back to a whisker ball. The grate works... great

In conclusion, I was hoping the next shaker would build upon v4 and add a slightly larger screw-on cap, a better fitting grate and a nicer design. All of these are minor though and I'm happy to keep using my v4.

Edit: I'm slightly confused though, how does the first one mix without a whisker ball? Does it also have a grate/mesh?

I was thinking exactly the same thing!

You Queal-guys did all this research and we customers did provide a lot of feedback which ultimately led to v4 and now you are throwing all that away and come up with totally different designs ?!..

This would be a premium shaker that would be available next to our 'normal' v4, which we are really happy with.

I meant that you are throwing away the research and feedback, not the shaker itself. I think it would make more sense to let the premium shaker be a better, upgraded version of the non-premium, since the non-premium already has all the desired features we 'all' agreed upon, but only lacks a bit of quality.

I disagree, I think it is the best Queal-shaker so far, its only problems are that it feels kinda 'cheap', its limited capacity and the misalignment-issue with the lid.

I would rather have a kind of bottle with a small hole to drink instead of a big one....

Neither of the options seem enticing: they’re plastic which both picks up odor and gives off odor. In practice they both offer very little for the cost in comparison to the “free” shaker.

Million thanks for Nozziel for mentioning the glass version of Blender Bottle though: I didn’t know one existed and now I’m looking for a place to purchase one in Finland.

I actually have this shaker (v4) from another (sports nutrition/supplements) brand and it is by far my favourite shaker!
